Happiness can bring you a lot of benefits, one of which being greater physical health. Feeling happy can help to even improve heart health, lowering blood pressure and perhaps even allowing for a longer life expectancy. Those that are content tend to have a stronger immune system, reporting less illness and infection than others. Having a positive outlook can also assist you in recuperating more quickly from surgery, pain and other ailments. Though we know that happiness can improve many aspects of life, it can be difficult to attain.
Negative vs. Positive Thoughts: What Do They Matter?
It has long been known that a negative thought or feeling can preoccupy your mind, making it difficult to focus on much else. You may find yourself preoccupied with fear, anxiety, grief, sadness or anger. This can make you less aware or interested in other things and options; things around you can become irrelevant. Negative patterns of thinking can stand in the way of finding happiness.
Conversely, if your mind is experiencing a positive thought or emotion, you are likely to seek out additional options and opportunities. Bad situations may not seem so difficult; they may be easier to accept and find solutions for. When we are working on having a more positive outlook, we are more likely to welcome challenges as simply opportunities to learn more, to build extra skills and to help us to become more resilient.

Happiness can be elusive and means different things to everyone. Unfortunately, happiness just doesn’t fall on your lap. You work hard to find, achieve and keep it. You likely want to be happy more often than you have been.
